"Listening in Three Dimensions"
This sculpture embodies what I believe it means to listen well. Taking a walk around a subject, investing time to see different sides, and alternative perspectives, bending over backward to truly hear one another. Shoot, our world needs it. I’m not a master by any means, ask my wife, but I’m practicing.
This is the second installation of my 18 month art residency Trilith. I was tasked with bringing the grit, the crunch, the weird, to make for a more enlivening place for creatives. Thank you to Trilith for taking leaps of faith and letting me explore with the community!
The portrait seen at one perspective is J. Arthur Rank, who first launched the movie studio in the UK where Trilith was birthed from. A visionary who listened, honored and empowered the stories of other visionaries.
This piece was created with scrap steel from Trilith Studios movie sets, farm artifacts from around Georgia, and leftovers from my fellow artists at South River Art Studios.
Props to Mary Beck Pinkston for helping me build this, Mollie, Joe, Phil Proctor, Chad, Seth, Rob, and the whole team for helping it all come together.
